Egyptology

Everyone is welcome to join the Egyptology Group. No prior knowledge is required, just an interest in learning more about the Pharaonic period. The group meets on the second Friday of alternate (even) months at 2pm in The Lounge at St. Teresa’s Club Lounge.

At each meeting, there is a short update of the latest news from Egypt, including new discoveries. There are usually two or three presentations on a wide range of topics of Ancient Egypt. A sample agenda:

- an introduction to the jewellery of Ancient Egypt,

- a description of The Tomb of the noble Sennefer, mayor of Thebes

- an explanation of the various names of Egyptian Pharaohs

The group organises occasional trips to Egyptology collections in museums such as the British Museum in London and the Ashmolean in Oxford. We have also had four study trips to Egypt.
