Meetings / rehearsals are usually held on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month (except June) at 10.00am - 12noon at St Teresa's Social Club. We aim to put on two shows per year in spring and autumn. All welcome - not just singers and entertainers, but backstage support and front of house needed too. If you’ve never been involved in such activities you don’t know what you’re missing! Why don’t you come along and give us a try? You’ve nothing to lose and it really is a lot of fun. Hope to see you soon.

The Variety Theatre Group took off in late 2013 as the brainchild of Dennis Lee, a former president of the George Formby Society and U3A member. Dennis wanted us to be an all singing, all (tap) dancing entertainment group and we put on our first show in 2014. The show coincided with the anniversary of the start of the First World War and so we decided to use this as our theme; Wigan at War was born.
In May of that year, ably supported by writers, backstage and front of house crew, with sketches, songs and dance, twenty-three members of the group hit the boards and were given a tremendous reception by sell-out audiences. Fearing for the safety of the stage, and to Dennis's chagrin, there was no tap dancing.
Since then the group has staged four shows, including one for the 10th anniversary celebration, plus entertainment at the Christmas meeting and a cabaret show. Earlier this year we also took part in acting workshops to improve our stage skills. Our next show is in October of this year. Why not come along and be entertained.
New members are welcome, particularly instrumentalists.
