Hello lovely U3A people,
For the past seven years a leading arts and mental health charity has been running weekly art workshops for people experiencing depression, stress or anxiety. The impact has been outstanding. An evaluation revealed a 71% decrease in feelings of anxiety and a 73% fall in depression; 76% of participants said their wellbeing increased and 69% felt more socially included.
Kurt Vonnegut said in his autobiography, A Man Without a Country: “Practising an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow. For heaven’s sake, sing in the shower. Dance to the radio. Tell stories. Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem. Do it as well as you possibly can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”
Your U3A has various dancing groups, poetry group, a singing group, and lots of other creative endeavours which we’ll be showcasing later this year. The Communications Team will also be doing their creative best by revamping the newsletter. Be sure to look out for your copy next month. Best regards, Viv

Our new committee members are on a mission - to get to know our U3A and help improve it. A recent survey has shown that we need to increase the number and variety of interest groups and ensure that every member has the opportunity to join a group of their choice. Lance Houghton, who is joining Sandra Garston as Group Leader Representative, will be visiting groups to get to know how they work. Jim Harrison, our newly appointed Communications Team Leader, will be looking for interesting items for the revamped newsletter and Pauline Pritchard, will be working with Jan Johnson dealing with all things membership. Please say hello when you see them. If you would like to start a new group Lance and Sandra would love to hear from you. If you have a news item speak to Jim and if you have any membership queries Pauline and Jan are happy to help.
