Some reviews of our walks.
In contrast to our July walk, the paths on our August walk were wide and not overgrown so we did not need the machetes we’d considered requisitioning. Instead we had a gentle 4 mile stroll from the quaint old town of Lymm, along well- surfaced paths - not one stile ! - around Lymm Dam and along the side of the Bridgewater canal in warm sunshine. We finished with a pleasant lunch in the shady courtyard of the Spread Eagle . Thanks to John for planning the route and to Alan and David for leading us . Lindsey Aitchison
According to my BBC weather app, the forecast for our July walk was for it to be fine - no sun but less than 10 percent chance of precipitation. However they were wrong on both counts ! The 5 mile walk from the Bowling Green, Charnock Richard was a walk of two halves . The first half, with the rain sweeping across the fields or dripping through the trees, took us through narrow paths so heavily overgrown we felt we were hacking our way through the jungle ! However, the Short Walks group are nothing if not resourceful and so, with Alan and David leading the way with secateurs to cut back the brambles, we made our way over the M6 bridge to Heskin. From here the paths widened out, the sun came out and our way back to the Bowling Green, for our well deserved refreshments, was much easier. Many thanks to John for organising the walk and to Alan and David for providing a safe way through the hazards ! Lindsey Aitchison
